Santa Fe is an artist's heaven (or hell depending), much like Carmel. There are galleries everywhere with much high quality work. Deb is using our visit here to make contacts for the western series she wants to do when we get home. The town is definitely a target rich environment. On the 16th, we spent the day wandering around downtown Santa Fe. The town has a great town square, ringed with shops, galleries, and restaurants. Just off the square is the St. Francis cathedral
We also went to the New Mexico Museum of Art.
After the exhausting gallery tour, we went to lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Santa Fe plaza, the Ore House. We had a better meal than the one at Café Pasqual's and it was about one-half the price. The plaza was alive with people, vendors, and music since there have been special events going on every day.

that was built in 1610. They're currently doing significant renovations to coincide with the church's and the city's 400th anniversary. There's a wonderfully whimsical statue of St. Francis on the plaza in front of the church that always makes me smile.

They have a small collection of Georgia O'Keefe's work on display, but I have to admit it's not to my taste. The temporary exhibit that they have on display is fantastic. Both Deb and I have become fascinated with glass as an art medium. We even took a beginner's class on glass blowing when we lived in Los Gatos, but we're not very good (actually awful). However, in our travels last summer, we saw wonderful modern glass art both in Corning, NY, the mother ship for glass, Portland, OR, with major Dale Chihuly exhibits, and in Colorado Springs, CO, which has a beautiful display of Chihuly vases. The exhibit here in Santa Fe was equally as wonderful. The bulk of the exhibit is owned by a family here in Santa Fe and they have amassed an astonishing collection of intriguing artwork.
