- Message to my returning readers: you will notice this blog is in English. It is some kind of test case, as I'd like to evaluate whether the language influences the number of readers one attracts. Can't confirm now whether I'll switch back to Dutch or not, time will tell.-

No, this is not the actual start date of our trip, it is the virtual start date. Cause this is the day we booked our trip to the Maldives.

We have been thinking of doing this since a couple of months now, actually as soon as our move to Dubai was decided we have been reflecting on where we could travel to during our stay in the UAE. Yes indeed, we have gone through some tough times :-)

And the Maldives was a destination that we both agreed on quite quickly. For us, it is one of those once-in-a-lifetime destinations, a dream come true.

This will be the resort where we will be staying during our holidays:  We learnt that there are about 80 islands/resort so the selection is a journey in itself but we chose our destination taking into account the pics on their website, the online reviews, the distance from Male, presence of kids club and price (obviously).

In the couple of weeks since the time of our booking, I have found myself returning to the booking confirmation and the hotel brochures on a regular basis. Just browsing through the pictures and checking out the hotel website - again and again. Perhaps this is who I am, always looking ahead to the next happy period (or should I say extra-happy period, as I'm currently not UNhappy).  That's also why we had to cancel our Easter ski holiday this year, because we like to book really early like ... one full year ahead. And then start looking forward to it. In the past it has been one of the first things to do when we got back home from a holiday: start looking for the next one - perhaps as some kind of compensation for the holiday being over.

These years in Dubai are exceptional of course, and we see this traveling as part of the added value of being here. Not only for ourselves but also for the kids, so next year we might go on a safari in Kenya, they will be at the right age for that. Actually, I'm already looking ahead to planning that one as well :-)
