We took a day trip out to Nara, about 45 minutes on the train east of Osaka. Because of its many temples and shrines, Nara is a famous tourist destination. It is home to the largest bronze buddha in Japan, the largest wooden building in the world and the largest thunder gate in the country. It is said that when the first emperor of Japan, Jimmu, descended from heaven, he rode a deer and arrived in Nara, and that the sacred deer that wander Nara are its descendants. We vistied a few of the shrines and temples and enjoyed feeding the deer who wander all around the area. They are very sweet, they know two gestures in sign language, one for food (closed fist) and one for no food (open hand). When you bow to them they will lower their heads to you as if they are bowing back - its really cute!

I must say some of the best Temples, and what a job all those years ago to make such a large Buddha it must have taken years. Loved the deer, you both look happy and I see you have no rain. Lots of love Mum and dad xxx
