We got a fast train from Levanto to Milan (without a reservation.... whoops). Arrived in Milan at about 2pm and were immediately hit by the heat. It had to be high 30's with no wind - not a great combination for a big city. Headed out that afternoon to the Duomo area for a bit but it was so hot that we had to head back to the hotel to escape.

The next day we decided that we would escape the heat and headed to Lake Como for the day. We got off the train in Como not really knowing where to go and ended up taking the bus to Bellagio at the top of the lake. Was a crazy 1 hour ride along the mountain edges. Bellagio is a very pretty place and a great way to escape the 'big city' feel of Milan.

Arriving at Bellagio we felt the need for a sugar hit and went in search of a can of coke - sometimes we are silly tourists and we paid the rip off tourist price of Eur 3.50 per can at the first place we went to Milan Duomo - with advertising!

. It wasn't even an 'eat in' price. I don't know what we were thinking. Moving on from that rip off we did actually find a great place for lunch and wandered around the lake looking for George Clooney.

We got the fast boat back to Como to get the train back to Milan (delayed by 50 minutes...at least Trenitalia are consistent at being late).

Where do people eat in Milan? We went to the part of town that the hotel called 'the place for the ambience and the eating' and couldn't find any restaurants (besides Rossopomodoro which we have in London). Maybe I should have got some tips from annabanno before we arrived. Anyway on the last night we actually found a really great restaurant near the hotel and gorged ourselves on the biggest veal cotelette. Enough Italian food, it's time for Spain. Next stop: Barcelona.
