Peter and I are off to Belize in a few hours. We are scheduled to take off from Minneapolis-St. Paul at 7:00 A.M., change planes in Atlanta, and arrive in Belize City at 1:50 P.M. Minneapolis and Belize are in the same time zone, so for those who reside in CST, as you enjoy your supper tomorrow evening, likely, Peter and I will also be enjoying our supper (albeit a few thousand miles due south).

We're planning to visit some Maya ruins, eat some seafood (and rice and beans), snorkel. Next you hear from us we'll be shooting the breeze in Belize.

A few things about Belize:
- Located in Central America south of the Yucatan peninsula.
- Population of approximately 282,000.
- Roughly the size of Massachussetts.
- $1 US = $2 BZ
- Bordered to the east by the 2nd largest reef in the world (after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia).
- Rich Maya history dating back at least a couple of thousand years, so there are plenty of ruins to explore although many have yet to be fully excavated.
- Maya astronomers calculated the solar year to be 365.2420 days (the true length is 365.2422 days).
- Gained independence from Great Britain in 1981, but English remains the national language and the official head of state is still Queen Elizabeth II.
