Berlin has seen its fair share of histories in the past 100 years or so. There are so many things to say, which I find them difficult to put down in words here. We had Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy, WWI, the first German republic, raise of the NAZI party, WWII, East/West Berlin, cold war, the Berlin Wall. But what do all these mean? I honestly don't know. It's almost like they are beyond comprehension... You get an idea when you walk aroudn the city. But those who claim they understand probablz base their "understanding" on their imagination - unless they actually lived through them here in Berlin... One thing I'm sure is that memories of the Wall (or what's left of it), the death strip, the erringly quiet Alexanderplatz (with the TV Tower casting a shadow over it) and old communist buildings around it, just to name a few, will be in my mind for some time.
PS - Definitely not as friendly as Munich. And it must be the dyke capital of Europe... I wonder what this City would be like during the LOVE / Christopher Street Parade...!
