Arriving into Pakse for the second time, we had to think about leaving the country. Of primary concern however, was ensuring we were checked into a hotel with cable for the match of the season, Liverpool Vs Barcelona. After a minor concern when ESPN went down across town for a short while, it was up and running again for the 2.45am kick-off. Get in! 2-1 aggregate and into the quarter finals. You'll never walk alone!
We left the following day, with the feeling that whilst this country has a lot going for it from a visitor's perspective, such as miles and miles of untouched, breathtakingly beautiful scenery and a jazz cafe-type of chilled out atmosphere, it is very difficult to get to know. Backpackers have a tendency to exagerrate everything, and we were led to believe before we came here that the people were some of the friendliest on Earth. The people of Laos are incredibly gentle and charming, but they are also timid and shy. As such, it is quite rare for them to go out of their way to make you feel welcome in the same way that say, the Cambodians do. In all, I'd say that Laotians are simple but endearing.
More than anything, I've found the country interesting. It's a place where most people's lives have remained unchanged for centuries and perhaps the most unique place I've ever been to.
