13th - 15th August 2007.
We've been really busy at this stop. Swimming, reading, eating, swimming... We have been staying near a town called Starigrad in a small apartment block right on the water. That's right no more camping. Our room is about 15 steps to the water, there's only 11 other people here and it's costing only 60 cents more than our previous campsite. Only one Aussie dollar more for a room with bathroom and a bar fridge. Laughing. The drive down from Rovinj was a slow one at times but was also a scenic one. The landscape was dry, barren and rocky mountains dropping right down to the Adriatic Sea which ranged from light aqua blues close to shore to deep dark blues in deeper water. The offshore islands that run along most of the coastline appear to have almost no vegetation. The whole area reminded us of parts of the Red Sea we visited in Egypt.
One afternoon I discovered we had a flat tyre, so after reading the owners manual I found that the spare is under the back of the car not inside, (so I didn't need to unpack half the car like I'd already done) and the jack and wheel brace were in the engine bay; of course where else would they be!!! The owner of the apartment and his grandson came out to have a look and the little fella starts giving me advice in Croatian with a plastic AK47 slung over his shoulder, and it looks a little to comfortable there as well. The sunsets from our balcony were spectacular, especially with a cold beer or two. Yellows, oranges and then deep reds before the sun slips below the horizon, then the night show begins with millions of stars dotting the skies.
As you can probably tell we didn't do that much while we stayed here, just relaxed and took it easy for a few days, and there could be more like it to come. Mandy has been getting better slowly but still is not 100%. More soon... More thumbnails ...
