Driving to Mossel Bay

Tuesday 24th April - Cape Town to Mossel Bay We left Cape Town early and headed out of town towards Mossel Bay. It took us about 5 hours to get here. On the way we could see lots of storm clouds ahead of us. we arrived we drove up to the point so Pete could check the surf, there was few guys out and it looked very similar to Point Cartwright. We drove around the streets looking for somewhere to stay before we found a B & B. I went in to ask how much and to view the room. Now I thought it was very clean so I said yes and went and got Pete and all our bags. Pete was a little creeped out by it when he came in. I think it had something to do with the porcelain dolls and plastic flowers plus down stairs the managers mother must live here and she is in a wheel chair on oxygen and was yelling something out to us. There doesn't seem to be anyone staying here so that is such a change from being in a backpackers with 60 or so people and now being in a very quiet place. To room is costing $60 for the night plus we get breakfast, so I think its worth it. We also have a massive ensuite that looks over Mossel Bay and I can lie on the bed and see the ocean, plus we have a TV and a fridge. Pete dropped his bags and got straight into his wetsuit and off he went surfing. As I lie here in bed, the thunder is very loud, it is raining and I can see lightning over the bay in which he is surfing.
Later...... Hi, it's Pete here. Well I survived my first surf in Africa... just. When I got down to the surf the last guy out was just coming in and the storm clouds were brewing, but it had been over three weeks since I had surfed so out I went. There was no beach, just rocks and I had no idea where to jump off. A couple of American guys pointed out the spot so out I went. The first thing I noticed was the ccccold wwwwater. My new steamer kept me warm but my fingers and toes were numb in minutes, but the waves were more than worth it. Paddling around in South Africa by yourself at a new reef break in an fierce electrical storm trying not to think about sharks is something I'll remember for a while. It was about 4 foot and a lot better and more powerful than Carties. Back in the water again... wooohooo.
