Monday 23rd April - Cape Town
Today we picked Dan up early and headed down the Cape of Good Hope. Our first stop was Simon's Town, a small coastal town with a British naval base. We went for a walk around and we all ended up spending way to much money there on clothes, shoes and souvenirs. We then went up the road a bit to Boulders Beach where we saw the penguins. These little guys are really cute but very smelly. We walked along the boardwalk and saw lots of little penguins in the mangroves laying eggs or just sleeping and hanging out, we then walked down a platform where there was hundreds of them. The water was a beautiful aqua colour and there was masses of big boulders, it was a really beautiful place.

We then got in the car and headed to the Cape of Good Hope, the most southwestern point of South Africa. We parked the car and walked up the steep steep hill up to the top to the Light House. There was certain sections where you stood and if you looked over the rock wall there was a sheer drop straight into the ocean. We eventually got to the top where there was a sign post of all the different cities and in which direction they are and how many kilometres away they are, and yes Sydney was there and it is 11642 km's away.

More driving and stopping to take pictures of the beautiful scenery along the Cape of Good Hope Scenic Drive before stopping at Hout Bay to have Wimpy's Burgers which is similar to MacDonalds but alittle better. We sat down the beach and ate and then walked down to the water to feel how cold it was, and it was pretty cold. We then did some more driving through the rich coastal towns of Clifton, Camps Bay before arriving back to Greenpoint where we said our goodbyes to Dan. (Thanks Dan for your entertaining stories, you have been really fun to travel with and we look forward to keeping in touch with you.) So then it was just Pete and I again. We packed all our stuff up so we could leave Cape Town early in the morning to head of to Mossel Bay, the start of our road trip to Durban.

Look at the map: Mossel Bay is south of Cape of Good Hope - it is not the most southern point of Africa.

Not that it really matters :-)

Look at the entry - I think you will find this is tagged as, Capetown, as this is where we stayed, not the Cape of Good Hope. We merely went there for a day trip. Mossel Bay is positioned quite accurately in the next entry...
Also, The Cape of Good Hope is the most south westerly point of the African continent, not the most southern.
