If you do not follow football I am not sure if you will know about how mental football fans are in BA. The football is not a very good standard but you go to experience the atmosphere. To give an example of how crazy the fans are... a group of manchester lads we had met were coming with us to the game and were on their way to out hostel... 3 of the lads had boca shirts on... they said a car stopped on the road and a man started shouting to them not to go up the road... they did not really understand what was going on but when they got to the road there were 4 coaches full of River fans (bocaīs rivals)... all of a sudden loads of fans ran off the coach and charged at the manc lads... a few punches were thrown and one of the lads got kicked on the floor... in the end they managed to run off..... not the most encouraging thing to happen just before we were going to a game...
The tickets worked out at 50 pounds each and although the hostel said this was expensive it covered the coach there and a guide too....
we got on the coach at 6pm and set off for Velezīs stadium... Our guide looked like Jesus and we all thought if it kicked off he would be of no use! He looked more scared than we did.
We got to the ground 2 hours before kick off as to escape the mad fans... we had to walk through 10 different search points before we finallt got in. There was a moat around the pitch and cages about 10m high with barbed wire...
The next thing that happened before kick off is best described if you click this link from the game..... I say no more
oh and Boca lost 1-0.... and there was a riot with the police in the middle of the stand but we all made it out alive.. our guide nearly had a heart attack though
