Uruguay had not been a country on our list but almost everybody we had met who been there had told us how amazing it was and to try and do it if possible...

So another bus journey (15 hours) and we arrived at Punta del Diablo. It was 4am and the bus stopped, a bossy woman told us we were here so we got off..... it was absolutely bouncing it down with rain... we all got off and put our raincoats and rain covers over our backpacks and started walking down a road where a sign said Punta del Diablo.... an hour later we had walked about a mile and a half in the rain, and were all knackered and in bad moods... the sun had started to rise when we finally got to the small fishing village... Punta del Diablo was a seaside locality and had a population of about 600 inhabitants, mostly fishermen and artisans.

Our Hostel was on the beach and was really nice. It was cluttered with items found around the beach like shells, fishing stuff and had friendly staff. We had met a few guys on the bus called Dave and Martin who were staying at out hostel too...

The place had the most laidback feeling yet and although the weather had been bad the sun was shining again and everyone was wanting to party.....

Tom and I explored the beach which had the craziest waves we had seen so far.... The hostel did hire surf boards but there was no way we wanted to risk it... at the end of the beach there was a small lighthouse situated on some rocks were the waves would come crashing onto them... The village had lots of small restaurants dotted around that all served fresh fish... near the beach there was a place where they made fresh seafood piella that was amazing,,
