Izmir is a place most people would rather skip as quickly as possible. That's what was on my guide. Should've listened to that, cause I'm now one of those who'd rather skip it for the next town all together. Besides the very good looking harbor with miles of grass running as far as your eye can see and lots of nice places to eat and drink, if you move inland about....100m, the place looks like a dump, busy modern streets with all sort of weird faces looking at you, giving you the feeling that they are getting ready to mug you or something. Remember, stay close to the water!! and don't go cheap on your accommodation, budget is a nightmare in this place. Take my word for it...
