We needed an early start this morning to do some serious exploring of Nuremberg, which had impressed us so much last night. After breakfast we went for a long walk through the old town to the northern side where we explored the Kaiserburg (Imperial Castle) and then followed the town wall back to our side of town and the hotel.

The walk to the train station was much shorter than we remembered so we arrived in plenty of time to sit in the carriage and make rolls out of the Landjaeger sausage Rose and Uli had pressed upon us as we left, which we kept for our lunch later. The trip to Berlin, about 4 ½ hours, was relatively painless and the succession of other people sharing the compartment with us just proved that first impressions don't tell you much about parenting style. The scenery was pretty spectacular and there was lots of snow on the ground, not just in the higher areas but also close to Berlin.

We arrived at Berlin Hbf and set off by foot to what Penny's google maps research had told her was the hotel we were booked into, only to discover that it was in fact the sister hotel. A quick trip by tram and we were in the right place, which was good as it was snowing and cold by this stage. Our room is great - big, warm and clean, with couch, kitchenette, free wireless internet and flat screen TV - what more could you want? The fact that all TV channels are in German isn't stopping Darren from watching Crocodile Dundee!

After some general bludging we headed out for dinner at a restaurant Penny had seen reviewed on TripAdvisor, called Pasta Divina. We were informed that they were closing for a function at 8.00 but decided to eat quickly and were glad we had - homemade pasta and delicious salad were a nice change from sausages, at least for Penny! On the way home through the snow we changed our minds about going out for a drink and like the boring oldies we are, bought tea supplies, biscuits and fruit and headed back to the hotel for a nice cup of tea!
