We awoke on Monday morning reasonably early and enjoyed the frosty view outside the window as the church bells tolled. Hit the breakfast bar and enjoyed the cold cuts, cheese and fresh rolls.
Decided to walk down to the park where Oktoberfest is held but another event called Tollwood was being held at this time. A beautiful park with all sorts of stuff surrounding it including the Bavaria monument which is a very impressive bronze statue which you can climb up to the top of, though not at this time of year. The statue is surrounded by a Parthenon type building with busts of important Bavarian people on the walls.
We then walked back to St Peter's church and admired its huge Gothic spire which proved exceedingly difficult to photograph with any perspective within the confines of the square.
Went inside to check out the windows and found the first church in Germany with no service going on. Headed back to hotel for a bit of a bludge then threw our packs on and headed through the freezing cold for the Hauptbahnhof (station).
Enjoyed a coffee in one of the many station cafes sitting in our plush leather chairs then got on our train to Stuttgart. It was a fairly nice trip with lots of winter scenery although Darren spent most of his time reading "World without us" and staring forlornly at his ipod which he had not recharged and which had gone completely flat.
We changed trains at Stuttgart and got on the train to Tuebingen where we were met by Rose, Uli and Lorenz.
Rose then drove us back to the Gessler household via two bakeries for a big afternoon tea of sausages, bread rolls and beer. We then sat about for a bit to digest and drink beer and catch up before going on walk around Pfaeffingen before returning and exchanging "Christmas" gifts.
We had a fondue for dinner with a few more beers and then retired for the evening, Darren quite early as he was for some reason very sleepy, and Penny a bit later after spending some time catching up with her favourite Germans.
