Area K is the place to go apparently and here I find a nice 3 seater bench and stake my claim a whole 13 hours before my flight. Nothing like getting in early eh? The time passes pretty uneventfully I have my packsafe which means I can leave my bag and mind my seat to do the necessary if I spy someone to look after things. I speak to Peter on the phone for an hour to carve up the mundanity and get about 3 -4 hours sleep which is just about expected probably better than I had expected and at 5am I am through passport control and waiting on the otherside of the gates.
Ryan Air is a budget airline and they try and sell you all types of things, I sleep, although pretty poorly for most of the flight and arrive in Turku in a converted army airport.
Arriving I realise I didn't bring any Euro with me and there are no banks or currency converters at the Airport so I give a couple some pounds to buy my bus ticket into town, I am sure they fleece me on the conversion rate ;)
Into town I get my bearings and head to the Tourist Information Office for a map and to find out how far away the school is that I am staying at for 4 nights during the Ruisrock Festival. I also enquire about horseriding, seems the place I had picked out is closed over the Summer Holidays (WTF?)
Seems to be an easy enough place to find my bearings and I start my walk out to my accommodation which takes about 40 minutes over an overpass, seems like walking will be the theme of my time in Finland.
Google translate is NOT my friend.. I thought I had done well booking the cheap school dorm accommodation for around $15 a night.. that was until I arrived and found that ohhh I am sleeping on a 5mm foam mat on the floor of a gym with around 100 other girls... FUN!!!
Add to this, the joy of joys, communal showers... now I try not to complain about things, there is enough of that going on, on facebook, but c'mon guys 12 in a shower is just not fun
Since I am one of the first to arrive I take the opportunity to christen the shower all by myself, I even think of turning all the taps on and running around in each of them but decide that its just wasteful of water and I want to be in and out before someone else comes in to inspect the shower, least they have an awful fright..
....in this case, don't wish you were here, cause that would be far too many people in the shower.
