A second nite of sleeping like a baby, this time I hear Theirry up and listening to music and I go in and out of sleepiness, it must be around 6am. Next thing I know I get out of bed and check my mobile it is 10am, oh wow where did that go. I head into town to the station to change my train ticket so I can spend another day.
Thierry has Wednesdays off and it would be a shame to leave after only 2 days. I am able to change it easily and I call Norbs in Germany to say I will be coming a week later. Its amazing how things work out. Norbs couchsurfed with me and Alisdair when we went down the great ocean road and now I will be staying with him in Germany. Norbs understands so I will only be staying 2 nights in Munich perhaps I can go back after Leipzig to recover for a couple of days.
I spend the day wandering, one of my favourite things to do, no destination in place just walking where I like stopping, sitting and watching and thinking, hmmm yes thinking. I sit in a park near the older part of Germany and decide to then walk the route of the tramlines back to Thierrys flat. He is on the D line, I take a wrong turn and travel along the E line so end up god knows where. I get a tram back to the centre of town and then the right one to his house.
Just as I arrive at his front door I get a text message from him, asking if I still want to go to the Couchsurfhing Language meeting. I go inside and say yes, for sure. He has cooked a quiche for dinner, we finish off the wine and I am feeling heady. We talk about travel and how both of us want to go to Tanzania, Kenya in Africa next year. He also horserides and hikes. Its amazing how a person who lives the other side of the world can have so much in common on what they like and how they want to live their lives.
The randomness of it all is amazing. Like finding your twin "T" whilst travelling in Aix en Provence and just happening to pick the same host at the sa;me time. Total randomness although sometimes I think it is the universe consipiring for you to be at a certain place at a certain time.
I give him his gift, a set of large, or should I say HUGE mugs with 2 different spicey teas, for all the times we sat and drank tea and talked and so he can share a cup with his next Couchsurfer.
We go to The Salamander and walk there to the University district. It is a funky pub and there are tables set up for different languages for you to practice. I am tempted to go to the beginners English or Foreigners French, but instead I go to the Advanced English, everyone enjoys speaking and listening to longer sentences than they usually do. Later I think I will go on to the Foreigners French. Theirry is not sure if he should be at beginners English or Advanced, I think he is more advanced than he thinks he is.
There are some interesting people there, another couchsurfer who has been involved for 2 years and a girl who went to Australia earlier this year and was stuck in the Queensland floods. There is a girl from Munich and she tells me some of the places to visit when I am there tommorrow.
There is an African band playing so we stay and watch them, they sing in African which is interesting. I buy Thierry a Fosters beer, he does not like and I have a Vodka Pomme it is easy to ask for. There is then another band who are also African but they sing in English they have two new girl back up singers so we watch them and have a couple of more drinks before heading home at around 1am. Its a great nite and I will be sad to leave tommorrow.
Wish you were here - Penny (well actually twos company, threes a crowd ;)
