Chez Thierry

My bones feel revived.  It is the best nights sleep I have had in a long time, this sleeping on couches although fun after a few weeks with different types of couches can make you ache.

Every fibre of my being was firing last night as I lay half awake, half asleep, content to the world.

I wake up at 8.15am and Thierry has already gone to work, I didn't hear his alarm go off or hear him get up.

I do not hear Theirry get up or get ready or even leave at 6am, he
leaves at 7am, so I sleep peacefully until 8.15am.  I only hope I didn't snore, especially since I have this damn cold
still going on. I am sure I have stomach pains from clenching my butt
cheeks trying not to fart.

I shower and wash
away the dirt and smell of the last few days.  It feels amazing, proper water pressure, hot
water temperature and enough room to swing a cat. My hair feels like
silk probably because of all the dirt being washed out of it. I sit on the bed and
centre my energy like "T" had taught me, she was one amazing lady and I
feel energised.  I have alot to see and will enjoy discovering
Strasbourg.  Thierry has left me a map and we purchased a 24 hour tram
ticket yesterday.

I decide to take the tram and travel to the
end of the line, well to Rotund where the train I get on stops.  It is
not a fountain stop like other Rotund stops I have been to, but the
trip is very nice and I see Strasbourg and decide places I want to
stop.  It is beautiful an influence of French and German and the more I
see the more I like.

I get dressed, make my bed and head out into Strasbourg. It really is 1,000 kinds of wonderful. It is a beautiful sunny day and the charm of the place is something else. When I think about living and working in France I now think that there perhaps is no better place than Strasbourg. It is not too big that you get enveloped into it but at the same time it has the charm and ease of a smaller city. It is so easy to get around, the trams come every 2-5 minutes and the architecture is a mixture of French and German.

I decide to take the tram to Rotunde which is a main stop on the D Line, there is nothing much to see there but it gave me a good view of things on the way and I have an idea of some places I want to stop on the way back. Theirry has given me a suggestion on some of the places I can visit and even though I am sick of Churches apparently Strasbourg has one of the biggest in France bigger than the Notre Dame. I get off at one of the main squares and take a look around, its so pretty. I do a spot of shopping, then some walking and then some more shopping, even clothes shopping here is easy and not too expensive and I find a few things that I like. So that means, you guessed it, throwing out some of my old clothes to find room for some new ones.

I start by going into the toilets and throwing away the top I am wearing and putting on a cute jade green one I bought for only $7. At least that's one less piece of washing I now have to do.

Next stop is the Cathedral, it is beautiful and old magnificent structure and not too ostentatious inside. I light a candle for Dad and sit down and have a quiet contemplation. There are lots of tourists especially elderly German ones.

I wander around some of the smaller cobbled streets and then come across a river, the ???????? there is a 70 minute boat trip on it so I decide to take a bit of a cruise around Strasbourg. There are some canals and rivers. It is like Amsterdam and Venice built on the waterways and the more I see of Strasbourg the more i like it. The people are friendly and it is easy to navigate around. There is a lot of history in the town but it doesn't seem caught up in it, the new architecture blends in quite well.

After my trip I take a walk around some of the town, going down different streets, I could wander for hours and not get bored. Its interesting how some places just touch you and feel so right where as others, like Marseille, just feel so wrong.

Its after 6pm so I head back to the appartment, Theirry only had a half day and had an afternoon snooze but he is already starting dinner. I bought a local bottle of Penot Gris a white wine from the Region which we will have with dinner.

I do the dishes and show him Soko which he really likes and some other music. I comment that he has Placebo and Sisters of Mercy in his CD collection and he says they are old ones but he still likes. He is quite taken with Soko, perhaps a roadtrip to Munich I suggest ;)

Dinner is yummy he sure knows how to cook and the wine compliments it perfectly. I do the washing up and we sit down and chat. He suggests that there is a language couchsurfing meeting on, on Tuesday, so I think I might just change my train ticket and see if I can go on Wednesday, Munich can wait. And I am going to spend an extra week in Germany anyway so lets just see how things go.

Wish you were here - Penny
