I loaded myself up with my luggage and shuffled over to the train station to pick the free bus to the ferry. The driver of the bus suggested with all he's kiwi charm that my backpack was slightly heavy. No shit Sherlock!!
At the terminal I booked in my luggage and waited for our call.
This was a massive ferry 8 decks. I wondered around free from the weight of my luggage and settled at the stern mainly because it was the only place I could smoke.
I watched the North Island disappearing from view and sailed into the unknown
I was talking on the phone to my sister, when out of nowhere a pod of dolphins started to play in the ships waves. I hung up on Lisa and got my camera out, but the little sods buggered off before I could take a picture.Gits
The journey took about 3 hours, longer than I thought. It made me relies that they are two completely different Islands, sounds stupid I know but I really didn't appreciate how far apart they really are.
We landed in Picton, a very sweet little town and found our bus; I was back on the road again.
But not for long. I was going to stop in Nelson for a few days, I had been talking to Dean and he was there, so a few days there will be great.
There you go, my FIRST dot on the south island. I hope that it's as good as the north.Pictures to follow.
