I've long ago forgotten what it would be like to pack a bag for a regular vacation!  Our travels almost always center around a trip to a pen show - this is a good thing, not complaining at all.   The trip to the LA Pen Show is a little longer than most of our pen show jaunts, so it takes a little more time and thought to make sure we have everything with us for the show, plus all the extra stuff we take along on a winter trip - the emergency radio, the monster flashlight, extra granola bars and other things that thankfully we have never needed.  Between Onstar and a built in mobile phone, plus two more mobiles, I like to think that we are prepared, but there are some remote areas we drive through and I know we'll lose cell phone service at some point or another, although I must say that mobile phone service gets more far reaching every time we take this trip.   Perhaps I shouldn't hold the Boy Scout motto of always being prepared quite so close to my heart - LOL!

Right now though, our focus is on packing pens and other writing things for the pen show and we're always weighing back and forth what to take, not to take too much and still make sure we have enough, a little crazy.   And some of you thought we just stuck a couple pen cases in our luggage, tossed them out on the table in LA, unzipped them and voila - the pens.  It's not that easy since we like to have oodles of strange and unusual things with us, too.  This is part of what makes a pen show so fun - surprises!   Keep an eye on the News section of our website, we'll be posting a few pics of some very cool pens that will be traveling with us on the Mother Road.

Last year, it was colder and snowier than we would have liked, but this year I'm hoping the advance forecasts are on target, all things point toward moderate temp on our trip from Fort Madison to Los Angeles.  I really, really could use a good dose of warmth ... anything 50F and above is fine and if it's warmer than that, all the better!
