there I will be one day
younger... and if I can't
get used to the idea,
maybe I'll just have to do

Rendez-vous at the Moxos'
Entry 424 of 546 | show all | print this entry |
Taking a night bus through tropical pampas, you'd think you could leave your blanket or sleeping bag packed in your backpack... big mistake! I almost did not sleep because of the cold. That is because you have to count with a very widespread option in Bolivian buses, I don't know if they pay to have it: with the bumpy ride, the windows progressively slide open by themselves. That takes between 10 minutes and an hour, usually, it just depends on your luck and will to sleep (every 15 minutes when you are trying to fall asleep of course). Lucie had the window seat, but also an additional wool jumper that she had put over her face, so everytime I was cold before her and woke up to close the bloody window.
My belly was giving me contractions too, but that I was getting used to. I tried to wake up Lucie as I first saw the "San Ignacio de Moxos" sign, then tried more as usual, without success, and somehow at some point it dawned on me that the bus was NOT going to stop, we were on a road going around the town... I spoke with the driver, these "·$% left us on the side of the road just there, saying that the town center was nearby. In that case it was true, but it could have been 5km away they'd have done the same (lovely Bolivia).
We found the place where the three Swiss were staying. They were out but their hammocks were waiting for us, set up in the courtyard, good lads. The city was full because of the local festivities, so they had had to buy hammocks to sleep in on the first night, before being able to book beds for the five of us. It was good to reunite that good team. The fiesta had been going on for two days, but we were in time for the last two days, all good. Lazing in the hammocks after lunch, we could hear the ongoing music on the plaza just a block away. Hot sunny weather, a perfect time to get hammered in joy, best answer to a bad belly and lack of sleep.
