Arrived in Puerto Deseado in the morning. I was with argentinian Fabio and swiss Lionel, we found a place to stay with a horrible landlady, and then we started to make arrangements for the next days: seeing rokhopper pinguins (like the ones in Doubtful Sound, NZ, not the same as the Magellan Pinguins in Punta Tombo), kayaking, diving with the sea lions.
It was bloody frrrrreeeeeezing there.
The town is very quiet, very small, but with a deep sea fishing harbour. They did not let us in the harbour though, and I wanted to see the big Merlus and Squids and crabs they fish out there.
The Ria Deseado is a valley created by a river (rio), but then the river changed its course, and the sea invaded the river bed, creating a haven for all sort of sea animals. The Ria goes some 40km inland, with many islands inhabited by sea lions, pinguins, cormorans, and other sea animals.
We went to visit the place for Kayaking, we also spoke with some tour operators (only two in town, and not a lot of tourists... in fact we did not see any!) and Fabio called Hector, who organises tours and dives.
In the evening we had a good meal at a fishermen's restaurant, near the port.
