In the morning I had my first real baguette in 7 months, and it was amazing, I had forgotten how good it was. Why can't they make it in other countries, everybody loves it!
I wanted to go to the nearby island of Moorea, but I decided I might as well stay in Papeete for the day to visit. I went into town with an aussie guy, we checked out the town market, and after 15 minutes in town it started to rain. A tropical wet season pour, in fact. We found shelter at the information office, where we recruited a british girl who was lost, and after a while we all went back to the pension. In French Polynesia, people move around in what they call "trucks", which are in effect trucks with a cabin at the rear, with windows all along and a bench on each side.
So the day was spent mainly doing nothing but watching the rain, but anyway it was friday the 12th, and I had already had a full friday the 12th the day before, so it was maybe normal that there could not happen much during a second friday the 12th. Anyway that was our conclusion with Syleste, the brit girl who was undergoing the same disturbing experience. We also decided we were better off than the aussie guy, who was going the other way, as his saturday the 13th was going to last only a few hours, mainly in the plane...
With Syleste we made plans to possibly go to Bora Bora by boat, possibly flying back. The boat tripwould have been on a supply cargo, and would have taken some 18 hours. We had it all set up, but after seriously considering the weather forecast, we decided it was not worth going so far just to be in the rain and wind and storm and be seasick all the way.
So back to the first plan, which was to get to Moorea.
