I was surprised on arrival to see that the Novodevichy Convent was part of UN world heritage. A very inspirating place, with many buildings, churches, towers, chapels, and exquisite wall paintings.
We missed the sunday service, but we entered the main church and had a glance at the orthodox rites. The men have to remove their hats, and the woman have to cover their heads. Lost of signing, and kissing of the icons. Before the altar, a wall made of paintings on wood. I took some pictures of such wood paintings at an exhibition in another building. Their colour and precision are impressive, as I could already see in St Basil Cathedral or in the Kremlin churches.
