there I will be one day
younger... and if I can't
get used to the idea,
maybe I'll just have to do
it again the other way...

One question that often arises is "how are you getting organized for travelling?"
Here are a few starting points, for those who might want to dream on, and who knows, to set sails too for independant travel
Preparing for a trip is a mix of imagination and realism. Reading books and travel blogs, seeing movies or documentaries, all of this has to be backed up by an idea on some general questions like : - Where do I want to go, to do what, and for how long? - What means of transportation are available to me ? - What food and accomodation can I find ?
To this end, a few general sites with lots of links are really helpful :
GENERAL The CIA fact book provides a factual overview of all countries For French travellers, the association Aventure du Bout du Monde For visa preparation, have a look at Project Visa Any question you can't find in the books or on the internet might find many answers in travellers forums, like the thorntree
TRANSPORTATION Apart from the alliances, airlines, and other travel agencies, it can be practical to know sites with lots of links, like airtimetables.com. Also check out the collection of routes offered by the airlines (with maps) And when you are thinking of a mileage fare, you need a mileage calculator For train travel: The man in seat sixty-one
ACCOMODATION Just in case : Hostelling International, hostelworld.com, hostels.com
MISCELANEOUS Weather forecast for skiing, and the French weather agency Skydiving: a list of dropzones, and my usual dropzone in Southwest of France
COMMENTS One very important aspect is the insurance that will cover you during your trip. Your credit card covers you for 3 months only! __________________________________________________________________ Have a look at the Summary Page - Please sign my Guest Book
