0500hrs alarm just as sun was rising over Rio Drake river beside our cabin. Sharan packed and I watched on supportively. Breakfast on their verandah style restaurant area. Particularly good selection of fruit granola and yoghurts in addition to the usual chaffing dish of scrambled eggs and rice/beans. Rare sun in this area stunning. Off down the wooden stairs to the beach and a short walk to where our boat had reverse landed. All aboard and a 200HP Suzuki outboard roars off toward the mouth of Sierpe River. Quickly to Sierpe and unloaded at Las Vegas restaurant jetty. FOund our man with the big back garden and retrieved our car.
Best weather we have seen for a while, approx 32 degrees and sunny. Drive to Manuel Antonia was quick only 2hours, hardly saw a car all journey. Straight to Manuel Antonio Hotel which we had found whilst walking along the beach last week. Haggled over room rates used all the tricks we know and got htem down to $66 per night room only this for a 4 star hotel right on the beach. Chose our room on the second floor best beach views and strongest internet signal! Went off for a walk on our beach, a little shocked to find quite a few others on our beach. The last time we had walked it alone. it is Sunday and we think half of San Jose is here combined with it being Quepos triathlon today. having said that it was not crowded and busy enough to be fun - the usual banana boat ploughing up and down the coast, paragliding surfing lessons etc. our reconnaissance ended at Izbals beach diner, considerably better than it sounds. We eat seafood pasta and a salad, pretty good. Sat by the beach looking out to sea.
Back at hotel we unpack check internet and have a short siesta.
Back to the beach for a long walk to check out all that is going on (ie places to eat). Great fun walking in surf the length of the beach as the the sun set. The water is quite warm and certainly expect S to swim at some stage. Superb subset at 1715hrs.
Showered and smartened up and off in car to a place called El Wagon. Literally a train coach wagon planted on the roadside where they have a wood fired pizza oven and produce amazing thin crust pizza. Make the pizza to order twirling the dough in the air. Super S bought a couple of glasses of Chilean Cab Sab. for me!
Back at the hotel room we enjoyed from our balcony an amazing thunder and lightening storm. Lightening cracked right above us just as i put the camera on. Thunder like i have never heard before.
