Arrived in Krakow in the south of Poland today after a five-hour bus ride. Poland is a beautiful country, and driving on the highways is a lot of fun. I appreciate the scenery, flat and lots of agriculture for about 2.5 hours, then the terrain starts to turn hilly and is spectacular. Never realized how rural Poland is until one drives across it.
We are camped out in the Campanile Hotel, a beautiful little place about two blocks from the main square in Krakow. We had lunch upon arrival and then went on a two-hour walking tour of Krakow, including St. Mary's Cathedral. Very impressive place.
After the tour, we all took cabs from the hotel to the National Museum for a reception hosted by the United States Ambassador to Poland, the Honorable Victor Ashe, an appointee by former President George Bush
Tomorrow begins our Krakow and southern Poland portion of the Fulbright journey. Should be good, headed to Zakopane for the weekend in the Tatras mountains region, then a river raft ride and a few other activities, should be good.
