So yay! I will be spending the next two years in Belmopan working for the BFLA (belize family life association) Belmopan is the capital of Belize, but not on the ocean. Im really excited to start working and doing outreach work. But before I go to Belmopan I will be spending six weeks in Guatemala to learn spanish. There are only 12 of us from the group that will be going. I think Im really lucky to be able to do that, except that I heard the training is gruelling. seven hours for five days and one half day a week! But Im ready for it and hope that I become at least proficient.
So on wednesday we went to crooked tree village as a cultural day. while we were there, they roasted cashews for us. turns out Im severly allergic to the oil on the outside of the cashew shells. I woke up on Saturday with a rash covering my entire face, neck and my lower back. Its really gross and I actually have been to the hospital twice now for it. The doctor put me on Benadryl pills & prednizone, but I haven't seen any improvement yet. Hopefully tomorrow it will look better. Oh well, I guess you have to roll with the punches when you are living in a new country.
Today is our last day in San Ignacio. Its a little sad because tomorrow we travel to Belize City and then we split up to do technical training. It'll be weird to just be traveling around the country with the HIV/AIDS kids, but it will also be nice to travel in a smaller group. Technical training lasts for ten days. We will come back to San Ignacio for a few days, then on to Armenia, Dangriga and Hopkins where we will spend four days at a kids camp helping out.
That's it for now, I'll write again soon . . .
