I have not written in quite a while...
Thanksgiving: Went to Cauhita beach. Saw a real, live sloth and howler monkeys. That was interesting. The sloth looked like a hairy ball and like on tv, moved ever so sloooowly...
Life has been slowing down for Christmas, which is coming up faster than I expected. Lately, I have been addicted to the Food Network Seasonīs Eatings specials. I canīt seem to drag myself away from the tv... Que pereza. (In other words, Iīve gotten really lazy.) The mornings are chilly and itīs hard to get out of my warm cozy bed. But I know the weather here holds nothing on the below 30īs and snow yīall have up north.
The other night, carolers came by the house. Here, carolers are a group of kids from the church who come to your house and sing songs in front of your "portal" (Nativity scenes). Thatīs what people do here, Nativity scenes. They really go all out with moss and rocks and ducks swimming on mirrors. (Not sure if there were ducks on Christmas eve, but hey...)
This weekend there is a festival in my town to raise money for building sidewalks to the new high school. Last night, chicharonera and karaoke, today: horse parades, tomorrow: baile! Speaking of the new high school. I was invited to the planting of the first rock (primera piedra) and it was a big, long ceremony with the big wigs in town and, of course, the high school students. My host mom had a part in the ceremony, and when she was introduced she told me to come with her. So the principal gave me an introduction, too. I was a little embarassed, but soon got over it, as I got to sit down under the tent like I was important and special too. :) I was asked to read something for the ceremony and, let me tell you, Iīm not that good at reading aloud. But I got through by relying on the fade out trick.
What you do when you donīt know how to pronounce a word is start strong and kind of fade out by the last syllable. Apparently it worked because people told me I did a good job reading. Or maybe it was a conspiracy to make the extranjera (foriegner) feel better. Oh well...
Anyhow, happy holidays!

Cool stuff...
I was just thinking about a week ago that you hadn't posted in a while... got a hair worried. Anyway, it's cool that you're having fun over there and being involved in all those parties and community events. There's actually a fair bit going on down here, so when I collect my thoughts I'll tell you what's been happening. And send pictures.
Keep the faith, amiga!
Until next time

Happy Holidays!
Wow, you got to check out a lot of interesting things. I'm jealous about the sloth and howler monkeys. I've seen them at the zoo, but it's much more cooler to see them in their native environment. I'm glad the ceremony went well. The fade-out trick never worked for me, but that's b/c I'm usually talking to my relatives and they interpret that as speaking fast (apparently I talk too fast in both English and Chinese ^^;;).
As for news around here, DFW got snow a couple of weeks ago. I was still in Houston then, but it was chilly. Then it was back to 60 degree weather. I returned yesterday and am promptly leaving for Vegas tomorrow. I guess I don't get much of a break this Christmas, but oh well, I'll still manage to find time to read and watch anime. ^_^
Feliz Navidad y prospero ano y felicidad! Jen
