So what is the best thing to hit Costa Rica since sliced bread? Nutella!!! Wow... what a shock. What's the scoop? I was in my third supermarket of the day hunting for chocolate chips, dried apricots and almonds. (Saw a recipie for brittlethat I wanted to try, and consequently, the brittle turned out so-so. It's not brittle, but more of a sugary crumble... and I didn't find what I was looking for in the supermarket.) Anyhow, I was wandering around the aisles in vain, when lo and behold, I spotted Nutella! I went crazy! I told everyone in the store about it. And at the checkout, I'm sure I was speaking in louder-than-normal tones because the other checkers and cashiers came over to look. Also, I told everyone on the bus and on the way home, told the neighbors. Hopefully that got everyone excited enough to go buy it (doubtful) so that the supermarket continues to stock it. I was ever so surprised. I had asked someone to mail me a jar, and now I don't have to! I can go to my local super and pick up a jar! Granted, it's 2500 colones, but well worth it. Yum...

!!!!

Costa Rican myth #2055.3- Opening the fridge while you are hot and sweaty (well, not necesarily sweaty) will cause cancer, body deformation and in common cases, death. (Yes, common.) If you are lucky, all three at once. But since you're dead, the cancer isn't such a big deal.

I have been warned about the fridge several times, but I never remember since, when coming home from a jog or a long walk, I'm hot and thirsty and all I want is my cold water bottle straight out of the fridge. Well, this time, I opened the fridge and got out the bottle. My ears were assaulted by a series of shocked gasps. (I wouldn't be surprised if a scream worked its way in there without my noticing.) My host parents warned me in solemn tones that I need to be more careful. My host dad launched into a story about a woman whose face was deformed. He proceeded to cross his eyes and pull at his mouth in two different and twisted drrections. Then, he dug up another story about another woman who, upon opening the fridge when hot, had her neck permanently twisted. I'm surprised HIS neck didn't get stuck from the angle he had it from the live demonstration. All the while, my host mom was nodding and adding words like cancer and death and other complicated palabras (words) I could not understand.

Moral of the story> Surest way to die a quick, painless death> opening the fridge while hot.

Beware of fridge when hot and sweaty, got it.
Nutella rocks. Now I'm starting to crave it. ^_^ I'm going to have to tell that myth to my brother b/c he always opens the refrigerator door for no reason other than to cool himself down after we've been working out.

I finally got around to looking at your photos. They're really cool. I've been swamped w/ all sorts of tests, papers, and activities. Oni-con was this weekend, and I entered my 1st cosplay contest. It was also the 1st time I was a blonde. That was a ton of fun!

Yo
I haven't heard of Nutella.

Everyone is usually cold in this house so no one opens the fridge to cool themselves off.
