Just a quick update. I haven't been able to get online for a while... But here's the news flash- I got the cast removed last week Tuesday. So I only had it for 8 days. Turns out I do have a fracture, but it's really tiny, and since it didn't hurt with probing, I didn't need a cast for longer. What happened was, the doc took off the cast b/c a) it wasn't at a 90 degree angle (it was painful on my knee and back and difficult to walk) and b) he wanted to examine it and get more x-rays. So I just had therapy for a week, and I guess I'm okay. There is minor fluid build up, but I can walk. No running yet, though.
Saturday, we are going to visit volunteers on our own and will come back Tuesday. I missed out on that first feild trip (that's when I fell), so let's hope I manage to stay on my feet this time. One good thing about the fall, the staff had me switch volunteers with someone else. Instead of visiting a vol who lives 6+ hours away by bus, I'm only going 3 hours to a closer volunteer.
Another good point- I can always get a seat on the bus because of my ankle. I'm using an ankle brace, so I have proof... But last Friday, I learned my lesson about that. Going home from San Jose, I got on the bus at the second stop, and of course it was full. I was too proud/timid to ask someone to move, since the ride is 1.5-2 hours. I put on my best "I'm a young girl, so I should sit down" face, but it didn't work. I wouldn't give up my seat for the ride back, either. Anyhow, after 30 min, I decided to suck it up and sit on the floor. Yes, it was drizzly and the floor was damp and disgusting... But I did it. Lucky for me, after an hour, someone near me left, and I got a seat. However, it was the seat in front of the back doors, so every time the doors swung open and banged on the seat back, it felt like the seat was going to come off the floor. Oh well...
Keep sending my emails!!

Hello!
Glad to hear your ankle is better!! Somehow I missed your previous update saying you had hurt your ankle! However, I have been swamped with school so that may be why! It was good getting an update from you!! You and your fellow workers are in my prayers! Miss you!! Love, Sara
Yay Kira!
Though your ankle story seems to be a bummer (and totally something that would happen to me), it sounds like you are having a blast down there! (At least with your 'down time' of no running you will have time to stop and smell the native Costa Rican flowers) I am so happy for you!
Things are going well here in Denton! Summer school Spanish is annoying me...but it's all over next Thursday...can I get a woohoo? WOOHOO! We have no campus minister as of now, but hopefully we will have one by mid-September...I am sure everything will work out!
Take care and God bless! Please keep posting...I love to hear how you are doing!
Mary Pat :)
