We have been in country since Wednesday afternoon. The only part of CR I have seen so far is the drive from the airport to the retreat site, and the city below the mountains here. Right now, we are at this retreat site learning about PC policies and initial info stuff. We had diagnostic Spanish tests, too. We have been bombarded by info and it is very overwhelming...

First reaction when glimpsing CR from the plane: "This is my new home!" and "The country is so green!"

We have a field trip to a nearby town tomorrow. We have a couple errands that we are to do to practice our Spanish and to prove we can use the phones and get around here. And that night, we go to a different town for dinner. I am really excited to go see a CR town.

This retreat place is very secluded and we all keep commmenting on how much it feels like summer camp. We have class sessions during the day and play sports, take walks, work on our "me posters" or just chill. We get our training family assignments tomorrow and go to the training sites on Sunday.

We are grouped by program type: MED, Micro Enterprise Dev. or CYF, Children, Youth, Family. From there, we are grouped by lang. proficiency into small groups of 4/5 per town. We are all bummed about being split up, but every Friday during training we will go to the PC HQ in San Jose for Tico 15 (our class name) training all together.

Anyhow, the food is okay so far. They are easing us into the poverty. First a hotel, then this retreat site, next the families...

Okay, well it is $1/hr so until next time! I guess I will be at my training site the next time!

two countries separate us, now...
WOW! I hope you're having a fantastic time! Sounds like you're super busy. If you have time, email me with an address that I can reach you at, and I'll send you some post. Are you allowed to get packages? I can send you some candy (non-melting, I assume!) or something. Or let me know if there's a book you want or something! sublimmenel@gmail.com

Miss you oodles, hope you're having a blast.

what a start
It sounds like you've had quite a first impression of CR. I wouldn't know how to handle all the info you've gotten although I'm supposed to be finding out my family assignments for Japan. Speaking of which, post up your contact info so I can send you a postcard or something.
