12th - 14th August 2008

We just spent 2 nights in Nasca, the main reason to go there was to see the Nasca Lines, which are a series of lines all over the desert just outside of Nasca, the only way to see thewm is by either climbing the high platform where you can see a couple of the figures created by the lines or by flying over them. The first day we were there we took 2 tours the first to an nacient Nasca cemetery where you can see the remains of hte buried, the archeologists here are still uncovering graves today unfortunately they had been robbed before they were officially discovered so all that remains are the bones and some textiles. The guide we had explained that the things that were stolen from the graves are sold on the black market in Lima still, and bring a fair price. We then went to a place where they explained how the gold in the area was taken from the rocks which was kinda interesting, after that it was to a pottery makers who uses the same techniques, materials and paint as the Nascas would have done, I couldn't resist buying a little pot from here. That same afternoon we went on another tour to the view tower to check out the lines for the first time. They were pretty impressive and after seeing them i couldn't wait for my flight the next morning (Bushy had already decided that the flight was a no go for him, most of you know what he's like on a big plane!)

So the next day we got woken up at stupid o'clock and me and 3 others got in a cab to the airport to go on a flight. It was all crazy un organized with the guy from the hotel just trying to put us on any flight available I ended up in a 4 seater plane with a japanese guy and a portuguese guy. The flight was really good it lasted about 30 mins and i got some brilliant pics from it. I did feel a bit ill occasionally but looking at the horizon helped, really glad I did it! That night we got the night bus to Arequipa, our last stop in peru.
