30/07/2008 - 03/08/2008

We decided we'd had enough of Cusco really so we booked a bus to Ica on the coast and spent the next few days going round the general sites of Cusco, starting with the Church and Convent of La Merced which has a beautiful courtyard surrounded by paintings, and holds the worlds 2nd largest pearl in the shape of a mermaid, which was quite a dissapointing size really! Although I was expecting something huge I guess but never mind aye. We later went for a tour of the Cathedral which turns out to be 3 churches joined together built at different times, pretty impressive interior with an amazing carved wooden wall at the back behind the altar.

By now considering we've been in Cusco for a while we were kind of sick of the site of the Plaza de Armas so we went for a walk up to the Barrio de San Blas which is a bit uphill from the plaza, Its a lovely area with little side streets and a nice little plaza next to the church. We went in the church as we'd been told that the pulpit was a must to see, that could not have been more true, it was intricately carved out of wood and is definately worth going in the church just to check that out.

After that we went for a wander around and came across a clothes shop with some wicked stuff in, its an Irish girl who designs all the items and makes them in cusco, I ended up trying on the whole shop and coming out with a cool dress lol I couldn't resist, back to the plaza and we came across a big crowd that were being blessed by a Shaman. On our way back to the hotel and the Plaza de Armas we went searching for the 12 Angled stone which yep is a stone with 12 angles! its situated within a huge inca wall which is still standing and has stood through earthquakes where the spanish buildings fell,. its huge and actually quite impressive, not much more I can say about that really.
