22 Hours on the bus !!! even though it had flat beds (Tutto Leto ) i felt like i had done 10 rounds with Tyson. All in all though good value for money compared to flying. The hostel was advertised as lake views, when we arrived we found that it was on the shore (literally) of Lake Nahuel Huapi. The lake is huge it looked more like a bay on the ocean, decided to try to stay awake and had a wander around Bariloche, this lasted for about an hour then we both flaked out and got some much needed shut eye.
By now Rae had developed the particularly nasty strain of man flu, (obviously not as bad mine!!) so we had a couple of chilling days, it was freezing.
On the 3rd day (Thursday) we were told by the hostel that the ski season was due to start on saturday, so we decided to stay on for a few days with the intention of getting some snowboarding in. We also booked a boat trip from Puerto Natales to Puerto Mont through the Chilean fjords. Also booked a bus to Puerto Madryn to see the whales.
While we were waiting for the lifts to open we booked a short excursion to the mountains. the bus took us to a local chair lift, views were incredible and the cameras were working overtime. On the way back the tour guide took a detour to the Ski centre, Catedral where it became obvious that there was very little snow, we had a chat to the locals who told us the opening date had been delayed by a week. Ooops 3 -4 days wasted!!
Wasted may not be the right phrase as Bariloche is an excellent town and its been nice just taking the foot of the gas for a bit and taking it easy. With all this time to consider our options we have now cancelled the boat trip and the the bus and have re booked a bus to Mendoza, looked at all the guides and it seemed that very little would be open further South, and all we would see was ice and snow. ( as usual planning is not our strong point)
Not much else to report really but will load up a few of the photos to show you the scenery, (sorry Ham still no bikini clad women!!)
