Yesterday's Shark Ray Alley tour started slow, after 20 minutes in the water we had only encountered maybe a half dozen rays but I must say it is still an overwhelming sight when out of the dark,  fleetingly, you see these angel like creatures descending on the area and as elegant dancers, leave. No sharks, so I take off my dive gear, and am in the process of taking off my flippers, always a task that takes more time than it should, and a dark shadow passes inches from my feet. Face mask into the water and I see the back end of a 5 foot nurse shark (thank god it was the back end not its snout, or I would not have gotten to the nearest bathroom on time).  Although we had encountered sharks before, the first one on my certification dive in 2003 in Cozumel, that was closer than comfort for an instant. I don't have time to don my scuba gear so while standing on the boat's ladder, balancing with one flipper on and one off, I am clicking away with my "cheap" underwater camera and hope that even half the pics will develop enough, but 14 pictures later, once developed reflect a grainy gray with no descernible shark around, so just take my word for it...this is no fish story  .
