Cory, Marcie and Mitch woke up today hopeful that that the
MOU would be complete and the meetings with all of the deans would be set
up. We all got up early, took our
showers, and dressed up in all our Michigan Tech gear. We set out on the journey to the IPS
office. When we got there, of course,
the dean was not there. He had been out
since Monday and probably won't be in for the rest of the week. The next step was to talk to his lead
secretary to see if the MOU was completed.
When we sat down and asked her if it had been done she said that it was
sent to the Provost's office today to be signed. Great, no dean and no MOU. The next question was to ask her if a meeting
with all of the deans had been set up.
No it hadn't. As we left her
office we knew that we had to do something on our own. We had pack all our Tech information into our
backpacks and we did not want to carry all that weight back to our dorms to
wait for tomorrow.
We came up with the plan to walk to all the offices of the
deans and meet with them one by one.
Just across from the IPS was the school of business and economics. That's a great start for us because we have a
lot of information about our School of business. We knocked on their door and asked if we
could meet with the dean. Unfortunately,
both his secretaries were there but he had not arrived at work yet today. Another good start to our plan.
We walked to the next building, which was the dean of
students. This meeting, thankfully, went
really well. He seemed very interested
in a lot of the programs that we were talking about and was very happy to talk
to us. One of the most interesting
things that came up was when we asked him if there were any projects he could
think of that would be helpful for KNUST.
He mentioned that they have been wanting to start a learning center for
the students to use at the University.
We had a very nice conversation about the learning centers at Michigan
Tech. He gave us his business card and
we are going to get him in contact with our learning centers so they can
collaborate and build a learning center at KNUST.
The next dean that we met with
was the dean of the Forestry school. He
was also very excited to talk with us because of Marcie. They had a very long and meaningful
conversation while the engineers were left out on the side. He Emanuel and knew that he went to Michigan
Tech. He said he would be very happy to
meet with all the students and talk to them about Michigan Tech. He actually said he would set up a meeting
with all the forestry students when they arrived back on campus late August to
talk to them about the opportunities available at Michigan Tech.
We eventually met with the deans
of: Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Business, Social Sciences,
and Architecture. All the meetings were
very similar and they were all very excited to continue the relationship
between our two schools. By the time we
were done it was already 3 in the afternoon and we decided we deserved a small
break and we went downtown to do a little shopping.
It was such a nice day today that
we decided to do a lot of walking downtown and a little exploring. It is amazing once you really get into the
market in Kumasi. At first we thought
the main streets where all the vendors are was the market, we were very
wrong. We found the real market
today. You have to travel down a few
alleys and take a few turns but you come out into this huge area with more
umbrellas and tents than you can imagine.
We wanted to take some pictures but when you are shoulder to shoulder
with a lot of strangers who are all looking at you, you don't really feel like
taking out your camera. We explored
around a little and found some really good deals on some clothes. Cory and Mitch both bought some Versace jeans
from 10 dollars each. Marcie found
herself a very beautiful dress for 10 dollars as well. We found some other small goodies for our
friends and families. It was starting to
get dark and we decided to head home so we flagged a cab and we were back at
KNUST in no time.
We did not do too much during the
night. Since the IBV team has been here
we have been enjoying each other's company very much so we were getting behind
on some blogs. We figured it was a good
night to catch up. We wish the IBV team
safe travels and we really want to thank all of them for the wonderful
experiences that we shared together. We
could not have asked for a more smart, hardworking, fun, and amazing group of
people. We cannot wait till we can all
see you again. Maybe we can get a change
to buy some more paintings together or even some minutes. We love you guys!

Awesome updates...
You guys are ridiculous!! Somehow I'm pretty sure Marcie didn't write that part... Marcie something tells me you didn't see it before it went up either, hahaha.
Anyways I hope Sunyani goes well, that the bridge is still good, that the teachers are there this time and that you guys have so much fun! Good luck with deciding where the computers go - they will be a positive impact no matter where.
Miss you all!! :)
Enjoy your last day!
