Since the last entry we have clocked up quite a lot of beach time, been out a few times, had our house broken into, eaten a lot of really tasty food, been driven around to the best beaches and surf spots by an ex pro surfer and generally have been having a superb time!!! Also I´ve got the photo this sorted out so we´re back on track.
So now the most high tech pieces of gadgetry that I own are my camera and my surf board. The little apartment we are staying in on Campeche beach in Florianopolis was broken into. They got my MP4 which had all my music and photos but forgot to take the power cord which is pretty much vital. Losers. Also they took Katie´s new discman, my travel speakers, Katie´s head lamp and a pair of my boardies. So now I feel little ungeeky and a lot pissed off!!! But these things happen and I´ll be able to get money back from insurance. Basically that is why there were no photos on the last entry. I´ll keep working on that. Anyway there was no point staying down in the dumps about it so the fun continues.
Our friend Davi who we met on the bus in Sao Paulo introduced us to his uncle Fabiano. We (Kate, myself, John and Amanda) are now staying at his apartments. He is an ex pro surfer and has toured the world, competing in different competitions and attempting to qualify for the professional tour. He didn´t quite make the tour but now is one of the Brazil´s head surfing judges and a very handy tour guide. He has given us the tour of almost the entire island of Ilha Santa Catarina which is where Florianopolis is found. It´s a stunning island with many beaches and diverse little towns. There are the really touristed spots in the north and the quieter coastal fishing towns of the south. We are staying by the beach somewhere near to the middle of the island.
Christmas arrived rather abruptly but we were prepared. Well Pauley was extra prepared and surprised me with a gorgeous frangipani tree that we decorated and used as our little Christmas tree Brazilian style! So Katie and I picked up a bag of prawns and cooked them in a tomato and garlic sauce, made smashed potato as well as preparing a mango and blue cheese salad. John was in charge of the chicken cordon bleu which was delicious. So we had ourselves a feast and boozy afternoon. Nice. It wouldn´t have been Christmas without the obligatory `Regnault Family Broom Trick` which was just hilarious. Even the neighbours came out to have a gander and a giggle. If you are unfamiliar with the broom trick then you´ll just have to spend Christmas with a Regnault.
I forgot to mention earlier that we got a foam surfboard for Katie and have been taking that out a bit. She´s ripping!!
Pauley is just being nice, I still suck but am loving playing around! So as you can tell Christmas was fabulous and to top it off New Years is tomorrow! Merry Chritmas, Happy New Year and love to you all!
