Steph was immediately attracted to the street glitter but procrastinated until 15 minutes before our departure to buy the usual touristy mask - pink of course!
First morning we headed off for the pilgrimage along the tourist trail to the Rialto bridge and then to St Marc's Square. We took a few detours along the way to avoid the well-worn route and hopefully see some different sights. We came across a large local market with great produce and fresh fish.
We were only a few metres away from the square and disaster struck - Steph spotted the designer bag street of Venice which I had tried so hard to divert around!!!
Finally we could focus on the tourist stuff and holiday!! :) (Steph is not happy with Paul’s blog!)
After walking all around the square and waterfront it was time to rest and we took a gondola through the canals on dusk which was amazing.
We finished off with dinner by the waterfront at the side of the rialto bridge, half way home to the hotel. Although taking our time around the place it had been a long day and the legs were really feeling it.
The next day was a leisurely stroll through the off the path districts down to the south side of the island (Zattere) for a rest. It's just such a beautiful place to relax and enjoy, especially away from the tourist crowds. A water bus home to the hotel and out for a nice dinner on the canal. Venice was such a treat!!!
