A good 4 hr flight got us to Auckland by mid-afternoon NZ time.
The motorhome rental firm collected us from the terminal and whisked us off to their depot to recieve our 2 berth Fiat Ducato van conversion.
It was a comfy arangement with shower and toilet cubicle, 2 burner hob, sink, fridge and microwave with all necessary pot, plates, cutlery and bedding to be warm on the queen size convertable bed.
The cab offered high seats with a great view through the big windscreen and a powerful 2.3L diesel turbo for all those hills!
Not bad at all for 14/day.

The first 2 nights we booked into the nearest site to town and as it was Gails birthday went out to celebrate. After a nice thai meal in a nearby restaurant we tried the pub and found (at last) a good range of ales. Such a change after Ozzie lager. We both had a thoroughly nice evening and toasted Gails special day.

Auckland was an attractive city. A bit cramped in the land spaces between the many bays on both the Tasman sea to the west and the Pacific to the Eastern side. Some lovely views we found from Mount Eden. From here you could see the Harbour bridge to the north and the Sky tower dominating the skyline at 328metres high. The mount had a large crater which must be a culdera. That could only mean we were stood on top of a volcano.

After getting used to the city and stocking up for a few days we studied the map and decided to head north first and see the convergence of the 2 seas from the very tip of NZ.
