That's what the brochure in Steve's tourist basket promised. It's not a drive to be rushed so we took our time, pottered aboot and generally sightsaw (that's never a word) our way from Calgary past the glaciers, mountains and (frozen snowy) lakes up to Jasper.

Not much to report from the drive really other than a couple of squirrels hoping to get fed at the lookout for Peyto's Lake. After a 10 minute photo shoot they soon realised they were being used and scooted back in to the trees.

Today we went for a hike in the Valley of the Five Lakes (4 frozen, 1 amazingly containing water). As you'd expect it's a walk that loops past 5 lakes. Again, I've not much to add here. I'm either lacking inspiration or everything has just been generally pleasant with no incidents to report.

[Mam, ignore the stuff in brackets]

We did however have a good close look at Maligne Canyon as we went on a [self guided] tour of the canyon floor. On the way in there were signs saying [not] to go in to the canyon [withoot a guide] as it was [not] safe. We followed the walkway down to the end where we could [easily get over the barrier and] see the ice formations close up. We followed the footsteps of previous explorers and could see that the ice was still really thick [due to the odd section where the ice had cracked exposing a crevice]. [Apart from the slippery angled part near a waterfall] the canyon floor was perfectly flat and smooth with a dusting of snow [making it easy to walk on]. The ice formations were really impressive and some formed caves of ice [that you could walk in to]. After taking some snaps [and skidding aboot on the ice] we headed back to [the pathway and] the car.
