The speedy gonzales approach to USA tourism continues. This time we jumped in the car and followed the crazy GPS over a strange summit road which admittedly provided some nice but unexpected views.
Not too much longer we arrived in San Francisco and set off pounding the streets to see as many sights as possible. The main thing was the bridge and some cable cars and they were covered off by a walking tour from the city to Fishermans Wharf. This winds via Chinatown and Coit Tower down to the waterfront where we hopped on a ferry to Alcatraz. It was excellent and an absolute bargain. I think they could get away with charging a lot more as it was probably worth it just for the views of the city, the bridges and the prison itself. On top of that there's a really good audio tour that takes you around the prison and tells some of the stories of escape attempts and life inside the cells.
I really like San Francisco, maybe because of the wind and the cables reminding me of Welly but it's got a nice feel about it. The harbour, the shopping area and just the general atmosphere is very pleasant indeedy.
Tonight we just headed back to recharge all the batteries before heading off on the next road trip. The original plan was a day trip to Yosemite from here but as it's on route to Las Vegas I've cancelled a night at the hostel and swapped it for the luxury of a hotel near the National Park. Well, it is my birthday so I deserve it I reckon.
Right gotta go, big day tomorrow, I'm off to fight some bears.
