Not quite the Dice Man.
To keep the adventure going we used to toss of a coin to decide the next destination and so here we are in Te Anau on the edge of Fjordland. Kelly and Mauro are staying in Queenstown to get some funds together and so Rich and I hit the road, amazingly my car made it without one steamy overheating episode - although it was a cold miserable day when we drove here so that probably helped. We're not far away from the Kepler Track, one of the Great Walks, but they all need booking in advance and a hut pass so we're going to leave doing the full thing for now. We walked up the last section and back this afternoon which stretched the legs back out after the uphill climb of Ben Lomond a few days ago.
We're back in our tents, only at a holiday park, but there's loads of walks in the area and so we'll soon be venturing out with full gear. We went to have a look in the local Department of Conservation centre today. They shouldn't call themselves the DOC but merchants of DOOOOOOOM. They're not a very cheery lot in there, they basically spend all day telling everyone that the weather changes quickly and will kill them if they're not careful. So having been scared out of leaving our tents, we're going to try out a few shorter walks before heading in to the proper wilderness (which I'm sure isn't that unlike Scotland).
