So after the Farmers Market, it was off to the beach!!  A cloudy day and the penultimate day of the American Summer.  A quick two block walk to reach the long stretch of sand, shoes off and a stroll to the Pacific´s edge and a shout from Carlota "Look - Dolphins!!".  And sure enough - three dolphins not one hundred metres from the shore jumping and playing in the Ocean.  Apparently Santa Cruz is the real Surfers Beach but this was Surfers Sauchiehall Street!!  Hundreds of guys all kitted out trying to surf the waves at 10am on a Sunday morning!!

Those who do not surf play beach volleyball, beach soccer or indeed american football.  Yes I did walk into the pitch marked out by mini orange cones to shouts of "Hey lady get outta here"- ooops!  Lots of lifeguard posts and Carlos was eagerly waiting to see if Pamela Anderson circa 1990 was going to pop out and run down the beach but no such luck.

To accompany the dolphins out came the pelicans (their eyes can see more than their belly can!) to the amazement of the kids "oh por dios, how fast they fish"!!  Talk about divebombing!

California dreaming right enough!  If you´re not jogging, you´re cycling or skateboarding or roller blading or elipting (a weird kind of bike which must be such a killer on the legs..).  Lots of tandems and thrandems (made that one up - what do you call a three man bike?) and Paris Hilton type mini dogs, and older men with ponytails and younger men with choco bodies (mmm...) and middling ladies with facelifts, and White American waiters and Mexican bellboys and in general a real good vibe.....

California - it might not be what it used to be, but my first impression is it looks good...

Have to correct you -of course it's in the blood!
"A wondrous bird is the Pelican,
It's beak can hold more than it's belly -can"
We were near the Pelican cafe in Glasgow on Sunday so that popped into my head then!
