met carlos who took me a few miles down the coast to Roquetas del Mar. Really beautiful corner of Spain - fantastic beaches, top notch and dirt cheap food and a minimal amount of tourists. was great to catch up with carlos and reminisce over a famous summer at the EXPO in German 8 years ago. And you certainly donīt go hungry (or thirsty) in his company. Almeria is a fascinating place. Always one of the "reddest" cities in Spain, it was bombed by the Luftwaffe almost as much as Gernika during the Civil war, and was the last city to fall to Franco. Part of the network of tunnels used as shelters during the war, have been restored. And the beach volleyball is also worth a look.
