The flight over went well...pretty calm actually and very smooth which is always a good thing. When I was in the lounge at the departure gate an old Afrikaans couple came and sat down, the guy started hacking his guts up sounding like he was gonna die - I thought to myself I hope I don't end up sitting next to them......

Well you can kinda guess what happened! Sods law but in the end he only brought his lungs up a couple of times on the whole flight.

Food was good - some sort of chicken pasta thing at about 10pm...eating weird food at weird times of the day which won't help the waistline. Managed to get the odd bit of sleep but not really used to sleeping in a sitting position, if it ain't a soft mattress with comfy pillows then I ain't got a hope Apartheid Museum

! Did enquire about upgrades to a different class but the two grand price tag kinda put me off!!

Derek met me off the plane and my first experience of the type of security and crime in JBG was Derek being asked to switch his car engine on and off as he left the car park to prove that he had the keys and that he hadn't hotwired it! Also spotted a 'Highjacking Zone' warning sign too!!

Derek's a great guy, took me into the city via the scenic route so I could see a bit of the area and then to his place and the garden cottage I'm staying in. Great little place to stay, comfy bed, big shower, swimming pool...etc. Had a 3 hour nap which was lovely!! Derek's place however is in a safe part of town where there's no worries about walking the street.

Just wandered to a shopping mall nearby and that's all I've achieved so far, but I have only been here a few hours..... Derek's got a few bits and pieces planned so I'm sure I'll be busy for the next couple of days - then will catch the BazBus on Weds.
