As we woke up this morning to a breathtaking view of Mount Cook with the sun shining on the side, we decided we needed to head on to Queenstown with a short side trek to Wanaka. Wanaka is a beautiful little town that sits on Lake Wanaka. Had it been later in the day, we would have found a place to stay and landed there for the night. As it was, we decided that Queenstown needed a look-see. We took a winding and twisting road up the mountain and back down, that would have unnerved the best of us. Paul has made mention several times that these roads were made for his S2000! Thankfully for me, that is not what we rented!!
We came into Queenstown expecting another tourist trap and were so surprised to see this great little town on Lake Wakatipu. It is like Vail, CO on the water with sailboats. What a charming place. We walked the city, found WIFI - which we didn't have the night before and sat for a while checking up on things at home
On the way to dinner, we even found a great yarn shop...but it was closed.
We have just returned from a great dinner of New Zealand beef...I had a filet and Paul had a New Yorker. We drive past cows all the time...they are everywhere in this country, yet the Kiwis don't seem to know how to cook the meat quite like we do. But tonight we had a good recommendation and it panned out. We ate in a great restaurant called Prime, known for their good steaks.
Heading to bed, we have an early morning. The weather here was beautiful today. I am sorry to hear it has not been so great at home. Hope you are all fairing well. Ike seems to be dealing us some fits!

Queensland Waterfront
. We decided we needed to get a room and make some plans. After checking in, we did laundry and planned out our next few days. We will head out early tomorrow morning for Milford Springs, a must see and spend the night in Te Anau before returning to Queenstown for Paul's big BUNGEE JUMP!! Mark your calendars! When it is 10:00pm K.C. time, on September 14th, (remember we are a day ahead),it will be 3:00 pm on September 15th here, Paul will be falling off the Kawarau Bridge as he bungees into his 60th year from 43 meters (142 feet). I have opted to be his official photographer! I am so much better at that than doing the height thing. On the way to dinner, we even found a great yarn shop...but it was closed.
