Took a trip into the desert area to an observatory. Well the Colombians say a desert but its not. It's a bit sandy and a has a few cacti.

The day was a bit hectic and we turned up later than we hoped. After a quick dinner at a local spot we went up onto the roof of the building to look at the stars. The guy doing the talking had no English and Franco was a bit pushed to translate; not surprising as some of the words are very specific.

Nevertheless it was a great time. There were 3 big telescopes there and I got to see Saturn and its rings. Amazing to see. The guide also pointed out stars in the sky with his laser pointer and then directed the laser at them. I was stunned to see that what looked like empty sky held clusters of stars.

Shame the day had started so early, it made the evening under the stars difficult to stay awake for.
