We arrived back in Kathmandu for the last time. It's now less than a week until our adventure is over and we come home, but enough about that! We decided to do some more sightseeing around Kathmandu so the next morning we went to Bodnath to see the huge stupa there, the largest in Nepal. Bodnath is the centre of Tibetan faith and culture for thousands of Tibetan refugees and is said to be the best example of a Tibetan community outside of Tibet. Every day at sunset Buddhist monks come from the dozens of monastaries nearby to walk clockwise around the stup and spin the prayer wheels which are all around the outside.
The next day we went to what was, until only a few months ago, the Royal Palace. Nepal is no longer a monarchy after the public voted in favour of the royal family being abolished, so they have now left all the royal residencies and Nepal. It's amazing to think how significant this change is for Nepal, even though they wanted the change, the royal family just vanishing must be very strange for people! We were told that the palace has now opened as a museum, but when we got there the police said we couldn't go in - although they didn't know why not!? So we went to the Garden of Dreams which is lovely. It was derelict and overgrown until 10 years ago, when it was saved from demolition by just two days and has since been carefully restored.
So now we are getting ready to fly to our last destination, Delhi...
