Arrived in Valparaiso, only an hour and a half north of Santiago, quite tired from all the travelling down south so had a couple of quiet days looking around the city and catching up on sleep. Valparaisio is an old port town and important Chilean naval base. It is built on several steep hills on are built houses painted all different colours on cobbled streets with steps going off in every direction. Old funiculars or dozens of too steep to climb steps link the port part of town with the hills so at 22p a ride we didnīt climb too often!!

It feels like time has stood still here there are old trams and most of the buildings and houses are colonial style and quite broken down, but this adds a certain charm!!

We visited another of  Pablo Nerudas house up on the hillside (again no pictures aloud inside it), and walked round most of the city and port area. The city is also known for its murals which are everywhere.
